As the Solar Skills Development Project in the Kyrgyz Republic approaches the end of its pilot phase, one of its most important achievements has been a strong focus on gender inclusion in the renewable energy sector.
Implemented by the Bulan Institute in partnership with the Kyrgyz State Technical University, and supported by the OSCE and SolarSpar, the project has trained 24 energy specialists from across the country. Notably, 40% of the participants are women—a significant step in addressing the gender gap in technical professions and promoting equal access to green jobs.
The pilot phase combines hands-on technical training in solar panel installation, maintenance, and integration with broader efforts to raise awareness and engage key stakeholders. A high-level consultation on renewable energy transition brought together government representatives, experts, and practitioners to discuss national needs and opportunities.
The feedback and insights gathered throughout this phase will inform the design of future activities, as the project moves toward broader implementation across Central Asia.
