

This report is devoted to the problems of textbook provision in schools of the Kyrgyz Republic, such as poor content, sharp deterioration of quality and corruption schemes in the production of the textbooks. We will also analyze the rules for textbooks, sources of of funding and responsibilities of responsible parties. The state budget of the Kyrgyz Republic for the education system
is allocated 28 billion KGS annually. In other words, this amount is almost
quarter of the state budget, or 23% of total expenditures. Currently in Kyrgyzstan there are 2,236 general education institutions. According to the information provided by the Ministry of Education and Science of KR, provision of schools with textbooks is at the level of 73.5%. This indicator compared to this indicator has slightly decreased compared to previous years. For example, in 2016-2017 academic years schools were provided with textbooks by 86%. Currently, there are 1,380,000 school-age children in Kyrgyzstan. The state budget annually allocates around 120 million USD for renewal of textbooks. In addition, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the European Union allocated funds for publishing school textbooks.
