Our primary and permanent mission is to promote human rights in our focus regions. We monitor, investigate and record human rights violations and strive to promote democratic values, especially as Eurasia, Central Asia and South Asia have been experiencing a shift towards authoritarianism and rising levels of human rights violations. In countries such as Russia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, critical voices have been silenced while governments continue to intimidate and repress human rights defenders and independent media.
Therefore we focus on tracking human rights violations in this region and publish briefing papers on these respective countries. We further analyze security challenges and their human rights implications in the regions mentioned above. Moreover, one of the primary missions of the Institute is to empower human rights defenders and assist local NGOs in cooperating with UN mechanisms.
