The side event is being organized on the margins of the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council and aims to share States’ experiences in the reintegration of women and children repatriated from the camps in northeastern Syria and Iraq. The event focuses particularly on the protection of the rights of the children, including rehabilitation, reintegration and resocialization.
The event is being organized by the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, the UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism and the Bulan Institute for Peace Innovations in Geneva.
H.E. Mr. Gennady Gatilov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva will provide the opening statement.
A panel discussion will ensue featuring Prof. Fionnuala Ni Aolain, UN Special Rapporteur on on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism,
Ms. Anna Kuznetsova, Children’s Rights Commissioner for the President of the Russian Federation,
Ms. Cholpon Orozobekova, Director of the Bulan Institute for Peace Innovations in Geneva
Mr. Aaron Greenberg, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) (TBC)
The panel discussion will be followed by a moderated Q&A session.
