Panel Discussion on Children Held in Syria and Efforts for Their Repatriation
The Bulan Institute is hosting a panel discussion on the current situation with ISIS-linked children. Currently, about 70,000 women and children are being held in the camps in northeast Syria. According to the UN estimates, about 27,000 children remain only in the Al-Hawl camp. Despite the international efforts led by the United Nations, repatriation of children has been very slow. The United Nations has been urging states to fulfill their obligations and protect these children by repatriating and rehabilitating them. While the conditions in the camps have been remaining horrific, many states have been reluctant to repatriate children and their mothers. The event aims to discuss the current conditions in the camps where children have been held and state policies toward these children.
